“Is there a difference between Reiki and Qi Gong? Isn’t it all universal energy?”
Yes, we could say it’s all universal energy, or better yet we could say its a positive, supporting, life-giving energy that is used in both Qi Gong and Reiki.
When you practice Reiki the focus is on bringing the Universal Energy inward. With Reiki you can be more relaxed in its use, you don’t need to control or direct the energy to a particular area, like an injured ankle or an emotional issue.
With Qi Gong the focus is more on how you use your own energy. Is there a difference between your own energy and the universal energy you bring in during a Reiki session? Let’s look at it this way: consider the energy given to you as a gift, it belongs to you now, so how are you going to use it?
The great thing about Reiki and Qi Gong is that they are complimentary and both serve to balance your energy, align and clear your chakras, and give you an overall feeling of wellness and personal empowerment. The healing force behind both carry over to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
Which is better? It depends on what will enhance your day-to-day functioning and enjoyment of life.
Reiki is great as a meditation technique, very relaxing. Qi Gong is more along the lines of exercise. If you want to consider the yin/yang side of it then you can look at Reiki as Yin and Qi Gong as Yang. One is not better than the other, in fact your highest empowerment comes when you have an equal balance between the two. If you feel low or out of balance in your actions then practice Qi Gong. If you feel deficient in energy then practice Reiki.
If at all possible get aligned with a good teacher in either discipine of energy therapy. This will give your greater odds of using the techniques properly, and give you the perspective of an experienced teacher. Above all, practice, enjoy, and relax!
